ESPECTRO
Thanks to everybody who submitted work for the Espectro Literary Magazine 2010! You should have gotten it handed back to you in one of your classes; for those of you who haven’t gotten submissions back, please come to Ms. Roberts in room B-3 to collect your work. The Literary Mag will be distributed Wednesday or Thursday this week during advisory. Thanks for all your support of the Lit Mag and the Standley Spectrum this year, and have an awesome, relaxing summer!
Collecting for ESPECTRO!
Standley Journalism needs your help! We will be publishing a literary magazine for the end of the year filled with art and writing, all created by students. This year’s theme is Modernism: A New Era. This year will be slightly different, as submissions will be judged in a contest. All students are eligible to submit works in the following Categories:
- Artwork (Hand-drawn, paintings, sketches, collages, etc.)
- Photographs (Photos must be original, all photo-editing programs may be used, but only on your own footage, i.e. not off the internet)
- Poetry (Poetry must be original, and may or may not be styled around the theme of modernism)
- Fictional Writing (Must be original, maximum 750 words; submissions may include but are not included to short stories, personal narratives, memoirs, etc)
How can you submit art, photographs, poetry, and writing?
Please turn in all works to your English teacher, and/or to Ms. Roberts in B-3. All pieces must be turned in no later than APRIL 30TH for judging. Submissions may also be emailed to Ms. Roberts at jroberts3@sandi.net. If you have art or photographs, it is easiest if your work is scanned and emailed, but we will also accept original pieces. Please outline all drawings in pen, marker, crayon, colored pencil, anything besides plain pencil. All works must have the following written on a post-it attached to your piece:
- Full name
- Grade
- English teacher/period
- Date of Submission
- Category of Submission
ALL WORK MUST BE ORIGINAL!!! Winners will be acknowledged at the end-of-year awards ceremony and will be rewarded with prizes yet to be determined.
Does your work have to be judged?
No. If you do not want to have your writing/art piece judged and/or critiqued, this is perfectly fine. We still want to use your work in the Espectro, though, so please turn in these pieces and acknowledge your preferance of non-judging on the post-it attached.

Messages can be annonymous, but they need to be school-appropriate. Also, make sure you have your ID card with you, as it will be verified. Make your friends feel special, buy them a shout out!
